HOPE FOR HAITI NOW - TELETHON RECAP

clooneyhaitinow.jpg

The Hope for Haiti Now Telethon aired live Friday night to raise money for rescue efforts in the earthquake ravaged country. So far, over $58 million dollars was raised, with dollars still coming in. Over 80 channels aired the program. Additionally, songs performed live on the telethon were placed in iTunes and the album has topped the charts in 18 different countries, according to MTV. According to CNN, the telethon is being touted as the most successful telethon ever.

The telethon was a celebrity studded event, with actors and artists from around the globe coming together while checking their egos at the door. The event definitely had its share of the exes coming together for a worthy cause. Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt weren’t the only ex-lovers reunited. Taylor Swift, 20, and Selena Gomez, 17, both bumped into their ex-boyfriend, Taylor Lautner, 17. Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz were seen having an intimate chat.

The man of the hour, George Clooney, said that he hadn't slept for three days but that "Haitians are having a lot tougher time than us." He went on to say that it's important to keep giving because they need more help. Clooney said the entire nation is in trouble and that it was a devastating moment in their history. George implored the rest of the world as "human beings to step out and help our fellow humans".

You can still donate either online at hopeforhaitinow.org or via phone: 1-877 994 2484 (1-877-99-HAITI).

JOIN WYCLEF JEAN TO HELP HAITI

yele-haiti-logo.jpg

This week, Haiti was devastated by a major earthquake that registered at 7 on the Richter scale and has caused dramatic loss and damage. While countries like the United States are rushing troops over to help, it is the effort of the global community as a whole that will truly save the already troubled nation. The country of Haiti is home to Wyclef Jean, and he posted a message on his website, Yéle Haiti, emphasizing the scale of the disaster. He encourages people to text "Yele" to 501501 to automatically donate $5 to the Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund.

A message from Wyclef:

"Haiti today faced a natural disaster of unprecedented proportion, an earthquake unlike anything the country has ever experienced. The magnitude 7.0 earthquake and several very strong aftershocks struck only 10 miles from Port-au-Prince. I cannot stress enough what a human disaster this is, and idle hands will only make this tragedy worse. The over 2 million people in Port-au-Prince tonight face catastrophe alone. We must act now. President Obama has already said that the U.S. stands Œready to assist the Haitian people. The U.S. Military is the only group trained and prepared to offer that assistance immediately. They must do so as soon as possible. The international community must also rise to the occasion and help the Haitian people in every way possible.

Many people have already reached out to see what they can do right now. We are sking those interested to please do one of two things: Either you can use your cell phone to text "Yele" to 501501, which will automatically donate $5 to the Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund (it will be charged to your cell phone bill), or you can click here to DONATE.
Thank you,

Wyclef

Yéle Haiti is a grassroots movement that builds global awareness for Haiti while helping to transform the country through programs in education, sports, the arts and environment. Yéle's community service programs include food distribution and mobilizing emergency relief. Grammy-Award winning musician, humanitarian and Goodwill Ambassador to Haiti Wyclef Jean founded Yéle Haiti in 2005.

HILARY DUFF LENDS A HAND FOR AIDS WALK

hd2.jpg
Hilary Duff was the the grand marshall for the Gay Men’s Health Crisis and AIDS Walk New York this weekend on May 17th. Duff and Boyfriend hockey player Mike Comrie did their part and lent their fame for community service at the Gay Men’s Health Crisis and AIDS Walk telling ET “We have a responsibility to educate young people about HIV/AIDS,” Hil has said. “So when I hear about how more young people are getting HIV because they don’t understand the risks of infection, it just seems so tragic and avoidable. I’m fortunate to have the type of relationship that I do with my fans — I can ask them to participate in their communities and I receive a great response… I am grateful that so many of them have decided to join me by donating to the AIDS Walk and even walking with me.”

Hilary had a busy schedule all day, as she hosted the opening ceremony for the walk. She also filmed a short public service announcement video to be aired very soon. “In tough times, it’s even more important for people to get involved. Everyone should find a cause they believe in whether it is something in your local community or something as big a global issue as AIDS.”

The couple joined an estimated 45,000 participants in the 6.2-mile fundraiser in Central Park, which benefited dozens of charities, including Gay Men’s Health Crisis. The walk raised over 5.6 million US dollars for AIDS and HIV-related organizations.

We believe that we have a responsibility to love our neighbor and care for those who are in need; it’s a universal call to humanity. By gathering leaders in the fashion industry and focusing on one family or community that can be impacted, our vision is that our friends, colleagues and the nation at large will see an expression of selfless love and the hope that can be regained when we serve one another for the common good of all.

By bringing together twenty-five of the top male models in the world they will fund and build a home for a qualified family. We will utilize specific media outlets and a comprehensive viral marketing strategy to document and expose this experience. We will use our unique influence in culture and the powerful imagery of helping others to begin a movement of people, specifically the younger generation, to act.

Armani Exchange is proud to support the Model Home Project. Check out their site for more information.
