KATY PERRY HEATS UP THE COVER OF COSMOPOLITAN AUGUST 2009

Katy-Perry-mdn.jpg
Katy Perry looks like perfection on the August 2009 cover of Cosmopolitan. The 24-year-old diva knows how to make an entrance according to the magazines article, “At last year’s MTV Europe Music Awards, she hit the stage in a football uniform while straddling a gigantic tube of lip balm. At her last birthday party, she arrived dressed as iconic musician Freddie Mercury, complete with flamboyant mustache and fake bad teeth. And at her Cosmo photo shoot, the 24-year-old stunner gives everyone a doe-eyed wink as she struts straight to—where else?—the stereo and cranks Lindsay Lohan’s ‘Bossy.’”

"It’s an apt choice, since there’s no doubt Katy is in charge. She’s rocking 5-inch Emilio Pucci heels and striking poses so fast, the camera barely keeps up. But Katy’s path to fame was far bumpier than her glamtastic image lets on". This teaser should get fans excited for the latest issue of cosmopolitan, get the rest of Katy Perry's exclusive cover interview in the August 2009 issue of Cosmo, which hits news stands today.

A|X RECOMMENDS LA ROUX

LaRoux-02-big.jpg

The highly anticipated 2009 debut album from Elly Jackson (AKA La Roux), who has everyone from Franz Ferdinand to Daft Punk hailing her as a talent to watch. This self-titled album is a mix of emotions, touching on everything from heartbreak to disappointment to invincibility. Ranging from the high crystal-clean falsettos of `Fascination' to the brooding lulls of ballad `Cover My Eyes' (that features London Community Gospel Choir), the breadth of the album and La Roux's diversity is clear. For Elly and co-producer/ writer Ben Langmaid, La Roux has never been about producing disposable dancefloor fodder. Since meeting four years ago the talented duo's goal was clear - they wanted to bring classic songwriting back into the clubs and charts, and with this album they've accomplished that and far more. You can get your copy when the album hits US stores July 7, 2009.

ISABEL LUCAS HEATS UP DETAILS MAGAZINE

isabel-lucaspeople.jpg
Watch out Megan Fox, here comes super sexy Isabel Lucas. The 24 year old Mebourne native is the other hottie in the new Transformers flick, which blasted the weekend box office competition.

The Aussie actress is featured in the latest issue of Details. Telling Details for its June/July issue that she's more than just a pretty face. The actress describes herself as "quirky" and a big-time nature buff, who likes to hike in Los Angeles's Griffith Park – she's a fan of the "energy of the trees and air" – and spent a year of her youth in an Aboriginal community. But this kitten also has a wild streak in her having a open warrant for her arrest in Japan, for her participation in an anti-whaling protest. The starlet shared that even though her Transformers premiere tour will take her to Tokyo, "It's quite unlikely I'll be arrested."

The article points out she’s Transformers costar Shia LaBeouf’s mystery passenger when he flipped his truck and was cited for DUI last year. But when asked about Shia, Isabel shared, “”He’s got an awesome sense of humor and a big heart. He’s got a lot to give. A really interesting character. And he’s also very passionate.”

The up-and-comer seems to take life in stride, and she's already earned some serious credentials. She spent two years back home on the long-running Aussie soap Home and Away and hit Transformers director Michael Bay's radar after a recommendation from Steven Spielberg, who cast her in his WWII miniseries The Pacific. NEW MUSIC TUESDAY: MOBY – WAIT FOR ME

MOBY.jpg
Electro-dance pioneer Moby publishes one of his most melancholic and majestic soundscape CDs of his career.

Born Richard Melville Hall, 11 September 1965 in Harlem, New York City, nowadays Moby is well known around the world and a leading figure in the commercialization of techno music. In 1991 Moby took the Twin Peaks theme, under the guise of "Go", into the UK Top 10. He is an all around talent and has composed profoundly yearning and lush songs that make you want to cry in joy, sorrow, lament and angst. He's truly a techno master who creates songs inducing mania to sounds that will arouse feelings of pity, compassion, sympathy and sorrow.

His new Album "Wait For Me" is a tender, refined and predominantly ambient CD of electronic music. With help from some adept female vocalists, Moby recorded the whole album from home -in his bedroom, in fact.

We recommend listening closely to some of the great tracks like “Division” laden with vintage synthetic strings. Also, “Hope is gone," which is a balled replete with pathos. "Pale Horses" is a brilliant song that is emotive and grievous. The list goes on…

CIELO PRESENTS HOLLAND'S SHINING STAR JORIS VOORN

JORIS%20VOORN.jpg
On Friday, July 3rd Dutch DJ/Producer Joris Voorn will bring fire into New York's number one house club ‘CIELO” in New York City.
Recently releasing a brand new compilation album titled, Balance 014, Mr. Voorn has has commented that he's 'pushed [his] own boundaries in a technical...musical and artistic way.'

A|X highly recommends that you check out the new release of his stunning 2xCD Balance 014 compilation from EQ Recordings.

With the release of his magnificent Balance 014 compilation, DJ/Producer Joris is hotly tipped as the next big thing. Across two discs and using, rather remarkably, over 100 tracks, Joris constructs a complex, layered and seamless mix of some of the best tech house, minimal and electronic dance music. An epic mix in the very best sense of the word, Joris achieves the rare feat of combining variety and consistency, both on the album and on dancefloors alike.

On his new CD you will find 100 tracks work together in 2 continuous mixes; Joris Voorn draws on a depth of talent unlikely to be repeated on a mix CD compilation. It takes a visionary DJ to combine tracks from Radiohead to Goldie, Leftfield, Jimpster, Aphex Twin, Dubfire, System 7, Minilogue, Cobblestone Jazz, etc.
This CD is definitely not one to skip through...in some cases one track includes 6 different tracks from various artists.

If you are unable to attend Voorn's upcoming Cielo performance, you will get another chance to see the Dutch star on Labor Day weekend when sparks will likely fly as he returns to NYCs Electric Zoo Festival.

To check him out live at Cielo, please be prompt -doors open at 10pm.

"GOOD GIRLS GO BAD" RELEASES THE OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO

BBC-005132.jpg
Cobra Starship front man Gabe Saporta is hunched over the craps table, a wad of cash in his sweaty hand, while Leighton Meester of "Gossip Girl" hovers above him on perilously high heels. Around them, the smoky nightclub pulsated in full party mode, as pretty people jammed to the music and guzzled bottles of beer. Leighton Meester is fierce the moment she steps into Cobra Starship’s new “Good Girls Go Bad” music video.

The concept of the video is that Meester runs an underground speakeasy, complete with shelves of booze, gambling tables and a dance floor. The band is in charge of the above-ground deli that acts as a front operation to hide the debauchery within. To gain access to the illegal club, patrons must order the correct sandwich and proceed down a staircase. "And if you don't look good, I'm not gonna let you in!" Saporta told MTV News during some downtime on the set, tucked into the Lower East Side.

The infectiously dancey "Good Girls" was produced by "American Idol" judge Kara DioGuardi, and Saporta was initially put off by the fact that the busy producer only had two hours to spend with the band in the studio. Saporta says he gave her a "stinky beat" and popped off a list of foul-mouthed song titles. "She didn't even flinch!" said an impressed Saporta. "She's a New York girl." Together, they dropped the song's hook in no time, and 15 minutes later the entire track was done. "It's, like, the best song on our album," he said of the upcoming August release, Hot Mess.

By the time Cobra and DioGuardi recorded the song, the band had already decided to collaborate with Meester. "I had heard that Leighton was working on a record and I really, really, really wanted to do a song with her, because I'm a big superfan of hers," Saporta said. He recalled thinking, "['Good Girls'] would be perfect for Leighton because it's already kind of her character in 'Gossip Girl,' like the perfect girl with the bad streak." They'd been working together on another track, but Saporta quickly sent her the new song, and Meester took an immediate liking to it. "I thought, 'I need to get on that!' " she told MTV News. "It totally is my sound too. Really fun to dance to it. Very edgy and cool."

The video was directed by Kai Regan and shot on Sunday, May 3 in New York City. Cobra Starship consists of Gabe Saporta, Ryland Blackinton, Alex Suarez, Victoria Asher and Nate Novarro. Check out the video below:

WE LOSE A MUSIC LEGEND...

michael_jackson_king_of_pop.jpg

June 25, 2009 will be remembered as the day on which the world lost his biggest pop music icon. Michael Jackson died yesterday at the age of 50 as a result of cardiac arrest.

After being transported from his Los Angeles home to the hospital, the King Of Pop slipped into a coma and was officially pronounced dead just a few hours later. The exact cause of death has not yet been determined, but various sources report that it might be the result of a medicine overdose as a result of his reported skin cancer. The news has obviously come as a massive shock to his fans and fellow musicians. “I am absolutely devastated at this tragic and unexpected news, " says producer Quincy Jones, the man who took MJ's music to the next level. "For Michael to be taken away from us so suddenly at such a young age, I just don't have the words. Divinity brought our souls together on The Wiz and allowed us to do what we were able to throughout the 80's. To this day, the music we created together on Off The Wall, Thriller and Bad is played in every corner of the world and the reason for that is because he had it all…talent, grace, professionalism and dedication. He was the consummate entertainer and his contributions and legacy will be felt upon the world forever. I've lost my little brother today, and part of my soul has gone with him.”

Last March saw Michael announcing dozens of comeback shows that were scheduled to take place this July and August at the London O2 arena. It was also revealed that he was working on a brand new album, with help coming from the likes of will.i.am and Akon among others.

To state all his successes would be nearly impossible, and we're quite sure you're aware of the man's impressive career.

The man who brought us the moonwalk is regarded by thousands the world over as the one and only King Of Pop, who, together with his main producer Quincy Jones, added a whole new dimension to pop music over the course of three decades. Albums such as Off The Wall, Bad and of course Thriller proved to be landmark gems that have reshaped the face of pop music forever. His 1983 album Thriller still holds the number one spot as the best selling and most successful album of all time, with over 104 million copies sold till date. The story of his life may be tragic, but there is no question about it that the world has lost a highly inspiring and colorful personality.

Our thoughts go out to his friend and family. Michael, you will be missed deeply.
