After Brad Pitt dropped out of “State of Play” because of what many viewed as support of the writer’s strike, Universal studio is moving on to Russell Crowe. Crowe will take over the Pitt-vacant role, in Matthew Michael Carnahan-scripted adaptation of the British mini-series “State of Play,” in the part of politician-turned-journalist who spearheads a newspaper’s investigation of a murder.
Crowe will be joining the ensemble cast that includes: Edward Norton, Helen Mirren, Jason Bateman, Rachel McAdams, and Robin Wright Penn. Universal to try to sue Pitt for breaking his contract.
State of Play is set release in Summer 08
