Hilary Duff dishes to Seventeen magazine about life after ex Joel Madden, who most likely is the father of girlfriend Nicole Richie’s baby.
In the August 2007 issue of Seventeen, Hilary says she’s surprised about Joel’s recent behavior. “All of the going out he did after we broke up sort of shocked me,” she said. “Like, that’s just so out of character for him, and when we were together, he hated stuff like that, so I felt like I didn’t really know him as well as I thought I did.”
But she still has high hopes for a future relationship that doesn’t include Joel. Hil says, “I still want the cookie-cutter American dream - to get married, have kids, and have a house with a picket fence. I still believe that marriage can work.”
Breaking up is hard to do, particularly when your ex-boyfriend starts dating someone else three weeks later, who is now carrying his child.
Case in point, Hilary Duff , 19, who last November broke up with her boyfriend of two years, Joel Madden , 28, only to watch him quickly take up with Nicole Richie , 25.
Then Duff was dealt another blow when her parents announced they were getting divorced.
In the new issue of Seventeen , the squeaky clean pop singer reveals how she got over two breakups in one year and what she really thinks about her ex.
On ex-boyfriend Joel Madden:
“I was really happy in my relationship with Joel. I was with him from age 16 to 18. Those are important years. He’s my first love, so I’ll always care about him. But I definitely feel like a different person now that we broke up. And I DO feel happy!”
On the breakup with Joel:

On Joel dating Nicole Richie:
“With the amount of time that we had invested in each other, I felt disrespected that he moved on so quickly…But some people don’t want to deal with how they feel, so they cover it up. Rebound! I shouldn’t say that. You know what, though? Now I don’t care.”
