ATB'S SUNSET BEACH DJ SESSION

A brief glance at ATB’s touring schedule for the summer season reveals him clocking up the air miles as he graces the world’s finest clubs and stages from Gatecrasher in Jakarta, Indonesia, to the Electric Zoo festival on Randall’s Island in New York City. Events such as the Cafe Del Rio festival in Budapest, Hungary and the Baltic Beach festival in Liepaja, on the coast of Latvia, set the tone for the summer: a celebration of sound, sun and sand. Welcome to ATB’s Sunset Beach DJ Session.

ATB has since recorded 8 studio albums, making him a very respectable songwriter and producer. But he is taking his skills to the next level quickly being recognized as one of the best live DJs in the game. This August, ATB lands in Vegas to perform for 4 nights at Rain Nightclub a the Palms Hotel every Saturday night. ATB will be touring strictly in the US all summer, including NYC's Electric Zoo in September.

HARD FEST NYC RE-CAP

hardfest.jpg

English hip-electro artist M.I.A. was supposed to be the headliner for this past weekends Hard Fest in NYC's Governors Island. To the surprise of everyone, it was the opening acts stealing the show for the rain-shortened festival. Dance duo Skream & Benga took the longest set of the evening entertaining the fans with their fast paced techno beats and unusual sound effect incorporations.

South African hip-rave group "Die Antwoord" followed and stole the show with their unusual experimental genre incorporating hip-hop, rave, techno, electro, and anything else they could think of.

M.I.A., performing her first live show in NYC since the album MAYA dropped, was without a doubt the most disappointing act of the night. The sound was completely off, forcing hundreds of fans to pour out of the venue at Governors Island. As if things weren't bad enough for the artist, the skies opened to torrential rain soaking the artist and making her end the set early, perhaps saving her from the impending boos of the crowd.

LADY GAGA HEATS UP NYC

gaga.jpg

Headlining for the first time at Madison Square Garden, Lady Gaga kicked off a three day stop in New York City. The 24 year old was incredibly humbled and said it was an honor to appear in her home town. Her "little monsters" were equally as thrilled to see the pop diva perform on Tuesday night. Concertgoers took Gaga's message to heart when she told them, "If you dream big, sometimes your dreams come true". She also mentioned to the crowd that she was once in their shoes, sitting in the upper rafters at MSG and other venues, dreaming of the day when she could have to chance to appear on stage.

The concert was a tremendous occurance for both Gaga and her Little Monsters, marking it down in history as the first time she played in her hometown arena. Being one of the hottest days in NYC in recent history it was safe to say that it was even hotter inside the building than outside, coincidence?

ROSKILDE FESTIVAL JULY 1-4

roskilde.jpg

If you haven't heard of the Roskilde Festival held in Denmark, it is by far one of the coolest festivals in all of Europe. First of all, it was started by two teens in the early 70's, which is cool enough considering it has lasted all these years. Secondly, The festival has existed since 1972 as a non-profit organization taken over by the Roskilde Foundation, supporting music, local culture, and humanitarianism. As if those two reasons weren't enough to get you out to Denmark to see the festival, it also offers a ridiculous amount of bands/singers/songwriters/DJs for your listening pleasure. How could you refuse?

The Roskilde offers genres from rock, hip hop, urban, electronica, as well as 3rd world contemporary music. The festival even offers a separate area featuring strictly electronica music known as the Roskilde Lounge.

Here are a few acts playing in the festival:
Gorillaz
Jack Johnson
Muse
Nephew
Prince
The Prodigy
Them Crooked Vultures
Alice in Chains
Vampire Weekend
Drake
Julian Marley
and many more..

The festival offers six stages from small to arena size. Traditionally known for booking up and coming acts, you can see some of the newest and best upcoming bands come through Roskilde from a great view.

GIORGIO ARMANI SPRING 2011 MENS COLLECTION: SUN AND THE CITY

6a00d83451f3fc69e2013484b97e51970c-800wi.jpg

Combining a classic taste with measured traces of nonconformity, Giorgio Armani revealed his Spring/Summer 2011 menswear collection today in Milan. If Giorgio Armani showed the edgy, dark side of nighttime fun in his Emporio collection, he spared a ray of sunshine for his signature line.

The glowing yellow-green essence of chartreuse gave a sunny contrast to Armani neutrals: classic slate blue and gray suits worn with finely knit jersey shirts, then set off with chartreuse shoes, belts, pocket scarves and even sunglass lenses.

"Chartreuse is a flash of sun, of energy," Armani said after the show of his collection. Mint and lime green accents and pieces also gave a dash of freshness to the collection.

The Giorgio Armani man is relaxed with his hands in his pockets and confident enough to wear heavily made-up smoky eyes—a sign of a sophisticated edge. Key points of style focused on the body, emphasizing the figure: double breasted jackets with natural shoulders, shorter proportions and bias cut at the hem to convey a sense of lightness. Armani's double-breasted suit was more than a nod to classic style, it was a display of masculinity. "There is a sense of pectoral power without making you see," Armani said. That is to say: Male strength, without the bare chest.

The collection also had a technical accent with sportswear made out of ultralight Kevlar fabric, resembling sailcloth. Lightweight shirts, sometimes textured to give a chunky feel, were worn under vests, and short waistcoats were worn alone to substitute shirts under jackets.

Gingham, also made an appearance in Armani in black-and-white checked pants that were paired with plaid jackets. Armani also offered pants in bold black-and-white geometric prints.

GLASTONBURY FESTIVAL 2010

Glastonbury-Festival-2010-books-every-artist-on-earth_header_image.jpg

The annual Glastonbury festival held in the rural landscape of Pilton, England is set to go off this Wednesday, June 23. The festival goes through the week into the weekend ending on Sunday, the 27th. Widely known as the biggest open air festival in the world, the venue covers about 900 acres and features artists from different genres on a total of 45 stages! The festival is sure to please all life-forms and age groups offering a wide spread of genres including contemporary rock and pop, electro, hip-hop, dance, and even jazz for the elder age group. The festival even has a "kidz area", surely catering to all age groups.

On to the music. Here are just a few names that will be featured at Glastonbury:
Gorillaz
Vampire Weekend
Snoop Dogg
Muse
Shakira
The Dead Weather
Jack Johnson
Norah Jones
La Roux
Phoenix
MGMT
Tegan and Sarah
and so so much more..

"It's like going to another country, a hip and thrilling Brigadoon that appears every year or so. Coming to Glastonbury involves a fair amount of travel, and probably a queue to get in but, when you get past these impediments, you enter a huge tented city, a mini-state under canvas. British law still applies, but the rules of society are a bit different, a little bit freer. Everyone is here to have a wild time in their own way."

Be sure to check out directions, ticket pricing, music line-ups, camping information and much more here at the official Glastonbury webpage.

The best DJ in the world continues his weekly set in the world´s biggest club. Every Monday, from June 7 to September 27, we can enjoy his world renowned sessions along with the best laser and light production the world has to offer. This will be Tiesto’s third year at the world’s biggest nightclub, and promises to be yet another spectacular summer! Special guests include Avicii, Dada Life, David Tort and Robbie Rivera, plus more to be announced!

Tiesto explains:
‘I have been on a musical journey of discovery these past few years, culminating in the release of my Kaleidoscope album. I met and worked with so many great artists that it has inspired me to continue to push myself and my music into new areas. Much of what became the Kaleidoscope album came out of experimenting in Ibiza last year. The positive energy at Privilege last summer continued into the world tour and has been truly amazing.

It’s been so great to see a lot of new faces at the shows and to feel that connection with my fans. With the Privilege residency it feels like a homecoming of sorts, the closing of the circle. I love this island and I love this club, it allows me to be myself and take my music in any direction I want. So all I can say for 2010, is I guarantee two things: Expect the unexpected, and expect to dance!’

Mr. Munro then looked around the packed room from behind the V.I.P. roped-off area. 'We were terrified that it is too ambitious having a show the night before the Oscars,' he said. 'I wasn’t sure if anyone was going to turn up. They might have been getting their beauty sleep for tomorrow night.'

Armani Exchange and Made Event Present

032010.jpg

Made Event & Armani Exchange bring the final chapter in their series of prolific events of extraordinary sound and vision to Nokia Theatre Times Square on Saturday, March 20th, 2010. Two of the world’ s most in demand DJ’s and producer’s, Sweden’s Eric Prydz and France’s Sebastien Leger are set to continue this unique series of events in grand style.

Eric Prydz unrivaled ability to combine commercial success with underground notoriety has allowed him to achieve recognition throughout the world. The softly spoken Swede has mostly shied away from the publicity that comes with success, instead choosing to retreat to his studio and continue to produce some of electronica’s darkest and most brooding tracks. His production resume reached full steam with the Pink Floyd sampling “Proper Education, closely followed by the massive “Pjanoo”. Prydz multiple label platforms also allow him to remain an enigma while becoming a household name. On Pryda, he explores his house influences with a plethora of tracks like “Aftermath”, “Armed”, and “Melo”. Mouseville sees Prydz releasing a harder and more upfront techno sound, as felt on the EP “On/Off”. Prydz has also launched Pryda Friends as an outlet for tracks from his peers like Paolo Mojo and Axwell. Since his arrival, Prydz has inadvertently broken into uncharted territories of dance music. Massive venues and top clubs around the world have rocked to his performances and productions, safe in the knowledge that they’re witnessing a one of a kind talent at work.

Sebastien Leger begins a new decade at the peak of his powers with his label Mistakes continuing to cement his role as one of Europe’s leading purveyors of the modern techno sound. Leger began producing music at the end of the 1990’s, and though surrounded by the sounds of French filter house, he looked to the U.S. for his primary inspiration. The antithesis of some of his French contemporaries, Leger draws his influence from the rich musical histories of Detroit and Chicago. Despite this classic techno influence, Leger’s music is decidedly 21st century. Tracks such as “Binola”, “The White Island”, and “The Rhythm”, lie at the funkier end of the techno spectrum while holding true to their roots. With Over 50 EPS on labels like Ovum, Intec, and Pryda, Leger’s discography could be the envy of most. His latest remix of Cirez D’s “On/Off” continues to show Leger pushing the boundaries of production and adapting to the sounds of technology as it evolves. Despite his more cerebral sound of late, he continues to bring dancefloor’s a funky sensibility, injecting his music with the very heart and soul that he feels while in the studio. With such a prolific studio and DJ schedule, Leger as firmly planted himself at the forefront of modern dance music, taking his sounds to wherever dance culture shines brightest.

Made Event Presents D. Ramirez

022510.jpg

Many moons have passed since D. Ramirez first exploded onto the scene. Travelling the globe with his trusty laptop in hand, the always moving Ramirez has dispensed his razor sharp productions to unassuming dancefloors around the globe, all with the precision of a first class marksman. With a career that spans the better part of a decade, Ramirez has achieved top 20 hits, performed on every continent, as well as developed the sound which single handedly coined the term “electrohouse”. Currently, Ramirez has deviated from this trademark style and has been at work with the intricate sounds of deep house and techno. To him, this feels like a natural progression. These are now the sounds where he finds melody and soul within the heart of the machines he loves so much.

D. Ramirez latest EP, ‘Nitr8’ is a complex structure of these rhythmic sounds brought together with a tight arrangement that shuffles along in true Ramirez style. Every sound is tweaked to perfection which provides listeners with a rich audio experience. The release features two original cuts, “Nitr8” and “Devi8or”, two prime examples of the powerful, muscular sound the British producer extraordinaire has made his trademark in recent years.

Super Bowl, Not Just For Football Fans!

alg_swank_lautner.jpg

The Super Bowl has been around for decades now and every year it keeps getting better. Starting off as a simple game to decide the champions of the professional football league, it has now escalated to a mega event. Even though the main purpose is still centered on football, it’s in for a little competition. From the spanking new commercials and celebrity sightings to the national anthem and half-time show, Hollywood is heating up the scene more each year. Also, don’t forget the Super Bowl pre and post parties either, making it an all weekend celebrity packed event.

Hollywood hunks, Taylor Lautner and Kellan Lutz from Twilight attended this past weekend’s activities in Miami, while hanging out with celebrity friends such as, Hilary Swank. Another familiar face, Carrie Underwood is also in attendance and this time she is singing the National Anthem. Everyone looks forward to the half time show as well, which is more of a mini concert now then just one simple act. The Who’s Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend performed their classic hits while, it seemed like everyone in the audience sang along.

Who knows what will be in store next year for the Super Bowl but this years will be hard to beat!

2009 has been a fantastic year for music and a great year for John’s seminal imprint, Bedrock Records. With outstanding tracks from Guy Gerber, Christian Smith & John Selway, and Guy J to name a few, the label has gone from strength to strength with each release. As we follow on from last years 10 year celebration, the main focus on this new album, Bedrock Eleven is on the future. With unreleased tracks that have been severely road tested by Digweed himself, from artists such as Mutant Clan, Marco Bailey, Alex Dolby + Santos, and James Zabiela. There are also a few classics from the label that have been specially remixed and updated for this album like Moonface`s 'Futurized Fears', Bedrock's 'Emerald' and Tijuana 'Groove is in the air'.

‘Bedrock Eleven’ compiled and mixed by John Digweed is out October 13 on Bedrock Records.

Tiesto - Kaleidoscope World Tour

Tiestonyc.jpg
Tiesto is on fire, starting this Thursday, Sep 24 10:00p at Manhattan Center: Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC. Tiesto will bring a weekend of heat in the city.

This will be one expansive 18 month journey around the globe for the master DJ. The tour begins September 24th 2009 with 3 nights at New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom and continuing on a 2 month run through North America. Tiesto's career is punctuated by landmark achievements – the first DJ in the world to sell out a solo stadium event for over 25,000 people 2 nights in a row, he scored a number one hit with his single Traffic, the first instrumental track to reach the top spot in his homeland of Holland in 23 years. His remix of Delerium featuring Sarah McLachlan's Silence was the first house track ever broadcast on daytime radio in North America. He played live in front of billions of people during the Parade Of The Athletes at the official opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Athens. But despite his meteoric success, Tiesto remains grounded about his achievements and clearly loves making and playing music above the accolades it brings.

A|X highly recommends to check him out, this Thursday at Hammerstein Ballroom.

MANSION MIAMI PRESENTS...

BENNNNNYYYY.jpg
The fashionable, fun, and sometimes freaky sound of DJ/producer Benny Benassi shacks up in Miami's Mansion. Benassi became one of the world's favorite DJs, since his 2008 electro-meets-house track "Satisfaction" brought him critical success worldwide, with high-profile DJs spinning its praises.

Benassi had already collaborated on and remixed incredible tracks for OutKast, Goldfrapp, and Felix da Housecat. These collaborations were soon followed by a family affair of sorts, with Benny teaming up with his cousin Alle to form the Benassi Bros. He went on to win the European Border Breakers Award for Hypnotica, which racked up the most sales for an Italian album outside of Italy.

Most recently and notably, he teamed up with Her Magesty Herself, remixing Madonna's new single, "Celebration". Benassi's infectious remix can be seen/heard in the official video for "Celebration" available on iTunes now.

Check out Benny Benassi this coming Saturday at Mansion Nightclub in Miami. For more information click here.

IBIZA MEETS UK

sw4.jpg
The huge upcoming SW4 music festival brings Ibiza to the UK.

South West Four in August is a great chance to experience the best sounds of the summer (without paying Ibiza rates, of course)

.

Dance Legends Sasha and John Digweed have been confirmed to headline South West Four 2009! In a rare (and exclusive) festival back2back session, they will be closing the festival by playing the final set on the main stage!

Styletraxx recommends that you check it out, because you won't find this pair of legends playing together at any other UK festival this year. South West Four has got to be on your events calendar...

The SW4 Festival is known historically for bringing consistent sunshine on Clapham Common over the August bank holiday. The blue sky is always a bonus, but the most popular DJs in the world playing in the heart of London explains why 20,000 people book early.

The Subliminal’s Erick Morillo, John Digweed of Bedrock, Fedde Le Grand and New York turntable legend Danny Tenaglia will spin alongside Layo & Bushwacka and Paulo Mojo on the outdoor stage. It’s likely that things will be going pretty well by the time Carl Cox takes to the decks.

You can be sure that most of the tunes played at SW4 will already be track-proven in Ibiza, where about half of the SW4 headline DJs have summer residencies. That makes it a great opportunity to experience the best of what the White Isle’s been serving this summer.

South West Four is on August 23rd. More info can be found here.

ONE OF NYC'S FAVORITE DJS PERFORMS AT CIELO

mattdarey.jpg
Well known UK artist Matt Darey, who quickly became one of New York's favorite DJs, will perform this Friday at Cielo nightclub in NYC. The last time he spun at Cielo, he pumped up the dancefloor with heart pounding Electro madness. He returns this Friday July 17th, 2009.

Even though he is known as a pioneer of Trance, this was far from a Trance event but the vibe was still very solid.
Mr. Darey is a man of many different styles and genres of music. A|X highly recommends checking out whichever style he wants to present to us this time as it's guaranteed to be amazing.
Rising local DJ Zack Roth of Cloudbreak Recording will open up the evening for Matt. Advanced tickets are available now for $15. Cielo is located at 18 Little West 12th Street, New York, NY and doors open at 10PM.
Better be quick and get in while you still can, it's been rumored that Cielo may be closing for a short time period in August. If this holds to be true then this may be one of the last parties in July before they close in the beginning of August, so party it up while you still can.

WE LOVE....SPACE IN IBIZA

pic.php.gif

It's the biggest Sunday party in the world and one of the biggest bashes in Ibiza - we're talking about We Love...of course, as it returns to Space from Sunday the 14th of June, right up until Sunday 17th September. And this year they've got Grace Jones playing live, alongside DJs sets from DJ Hell, Carl Craig, Jeff Mills and Radio Slave too…
Some like it, some loathe it and some live for it - the one thing that you be sure of about We Love… Space in Ibiza is that everyone's got an opinion on it. It's the Sunday party that's defined all the others, being one of the first and certainly the biggest of them all. And being based at one of Ibiza's biggest clubs doesn't hurt, that's for sure.
But don't think it's not just the big acts - and they are big, we're talking the Chemicals, Simian Mobile Disco, Tiefschwarz, Felix etc - but there's also the club's infamous Red Room, where Tim Sheridan and Smokin' Jo had their Nastydirtysexmusic electro parties, and more recently where the Chew The Fat crew have made themselves mightily at home with their upfront breaks, electro and techy house.
It's looking like a good summer already.

ELECTRIC ZOO, NYC

home.jpg

Made Events has announced details of a new electronic music festival for New York City: Electric Zoo.

Armin van Buuren and David Guetta are set to headline the two-day festival, which will be held over Labor Day weekend on Randall's Island. Also included in the initial lineup announcement: Richie Hawtin, Luciano, Steve Bug, LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy and James Mahoney and a rare US appearance for Border Community label boss James Holden among many others. In all, more than 50 acts are promised to play across multiple stages, covering all genres; House, Techno, Trance, Electro, and Indie, including DJs and live acts.

Despite being regarded as one of the world's largest markets for electronic music, New York has had a history of festival failures, the most recent of which, Minitek, was plagued by mismanagement and miscommunication. With Made Events—a promotions group responsible for more than 400 events in New York and Miami—it stands to reason that mismanagement won't be something to worry about when heading over to Randall's Island over Labor Day weekend. "EASY VIRTUE" NEW YORK CITY PREMIERE

jessica-biel-4119-15.jpg
On Monday Night at the AMC Loews 19th Street East in New York City. Jessica Biel and Ben Barnes Premiered their newest flick “Easy Virtue”. The event was hosted by The Cinema Society and The Wall Street Journal.

In the postmodern comedy 27-year-old Biel plays a 1920s American blond bombshell in London who gets involved with the upper-class son (Ben Barnes) of a snobby and controlling mother (Kristin Scott Thomas). Ben Barnes the young Englishman marries the glamorous American played by Beil and when he brings her home to meet the parents, she arrives like a blast from the future - blowing their entrenched British stuffiness out the window.

The role was strange for Beil, trying comedy for the first time. In Easy Virtue, Biel agreed it was difficult "to pull off the dry wit" her English co-stars, Ben Barnes and Colin Firth, are so accomplished at delivering. She rose to the challenge of singing in the film - and no, she didn't ask Timberlake to coach her. "I was totally embarrassed," Biel said of performing Mad About The Boy in the picture. "I was doing it on my own and didn't want help." That's not the end of her vocal career, however. Biel has signed on to portray Sister Sarah in the musical Guys and Dolls at L.A.'s Hollywood Bowl in July. "It's just for three days, but I am anxious about it, so I have decided to take some singing lessons."

The films cast also includes Kristin Scott Thomas playing Mrs. Whittaker, Colin Firth as Mr. Whittaker and Kimberley Nixon as Hilda Whittaker. Directed by Stephan Elliot and written by Stephan Elliott, Sheridan Jobbins and Noel Coward Easy Virtue opens in theaters everywhere on May 22. If you can’t wait till then check out the sneak peak below:

HUGH JACKMAN GETS HIS CLAWS DIRTY

0%2C%2C6589209%2C00.jpg
Hugh Jackman, star of the upcoming X-Men Origins: Wolverine, was honoured at a ceremony on Tuesday where the Australian star immortalized his name in Hollywood history by sinking his claws and paws into cement outside the famous Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. Jackman’s markings sit alongside the legends of Hollywood, with the likes of Marilyn Monroe , John Wayne , Frank Sinatra , Clark Gable , Bing Crosby, Doris Day and Humphrey Bogart performing similar ceremonies in the theatre’s iconic forecourt the past 70 years.

“I have to tell you,” Jackman told a vocal crowd of about 500 fans and dignitaries, including Rupert Murdoch, owner of the 20th Century Fox film studio, which is releasing the Wolverine film. “This particular block of real estate has brought me two moments in my life I thought would never ever happen. Hosting the Oscars and now here today. It means the world to me to be here.”

The movie house on Hollywood Boulevard is a key tourist attraction, where for 82 years stars such as Cary Grant and Judy Garland have been honoured by stamping their own signed hand- and foot-prints into the theatre’s forecourt. Jackman recalled a previous trip to the venue with his wife, saying it was the first Hollywood landmark he visited in Los Angeles and while there he put his hands into the prints of late comedian Peter Sellers. “Here we are, 12 years later,” he told a crowd at the ceremony. “It’s a very humbling moment as an actor to be here. You look down at the names, from Fred Astaire to Cary Grant, Clint Eastwood, Al Pacino, Steve McQueen, John Wayne and to think that those people have been immortalised and pretty soon I’ll be putting my hands in wet cement,” Jackman said, before planting his palms in the concrete.

Hugh Jackman is having a pretty great career right about now. Everyone wants a piece of him. In two weeks, the Australian actor debuts the new X-Men Origins movie, reprising his role as conflicted “mutant” Wolverine, who battles other, evil mutants trying to control the world. Don't miss X men Origins in theaters May 1st 2009.

Last night, Tuesday, April 21, 2009, marked the eighth annual opening of the Tribeca Film Festival and when Vanity Fair throws a party, all of the stars come out — even on a rainy New York City night. The event was held at the New York State Supreme Courthouse in Tribeca. A side note: the name Tribeca or TriBeCa is an acronym referring to a neighborhood in downtown NYC, that falls within a Triangle Below Canal street.

In addition to TFF founder Robert De Niro and VF honcho Graydon Carter, movie stars, musicians and even multiple news anchors turned out to celebrate the eighth year of the festival. Among the crowd was The Tudors star Henry Cavill, spotted looking more handsome than ever. Earlier in the day, the hottie was scene posing at the NYC 2009 Tribeca portrait studio at DirecTV’s Tribeca Press Center.

Diddy Does WMC

large_Diddy.JPG
Hip-hop mogul P Diddy will make return to Miami's Cameo club at this year's WMC along with Felix Da Housecat.

Diddy memorably shouted "This party is not for commercial dance music muthaf*%kas!" in a promo video before his 2008 "The Main Event" show, which saw Diddy host Claude VonStroke, Steve Angello and The Martinez Brothers. This year, though, he's set to return to his dance music roots with the production brains behind his brief move into house music, Felix Da Housecat.

The event is set to be hosted—whatever that means—by super-producer Nellee Hooper, Musik's Ralph Moore and Jessica Rosenblum and while reviews of last year's event were mixed, you never quite know what Diddy's got up his sleeve. Expect the unexpected.

Deejays Invade Water Taxi Beach

gov%20isl.jpg
Water Taxi Beach is a unique outdoor clubbing experience with great beats right at the beach, and now they are expanding to an additional venue on Governors Island. Governors Island is a large park off the southern tip of Manhattan. One of the two beaches located on the island will play host to various events this summer.

Water Taxi Beach on Governors Island is a special treat for New Yorkers since the island itself has just been reopened to the public after being government property for many years. Not only will the beach feature concerts and events, but there will also be restaurants placed at the location along with other amenities - a volleyball court, basketball courts and the amphitheater area. The views of New York City from Governors Island are exquisite. To get to the beach, you must take the local New York Water Taxi from Queens, Brooklyn, or Manhattan or the Governor's Island Ferry.

The other Water Taxi Beach is located in Long Island City in Hunter's Point; their grand opening this year is on Memorial Day. So far, there are three events listed on the schedule: Aint Nothin' but a House Party with Jellybean Benitez on May 2nd, System Audible hosts Mother Love on Mother's Day May 10th, and Chus and Ceballos on May 17th. In '08, the venue featured artists such as Danny Howells, Benny Benassi, John Creamer & Stephane K, Boris, Miguel Migs, Quentin Harris, Peter Bailey, Richie Santana, Astro & Glyde, Tommie Sunshine, Peter Rauhofer, and the Martinez Brothers, as well as free events including the Cielo 2008 Showcase. Expect more details and hopefully more on schedule by May 2009!

Digweed Comes to Cali

John_Digweed_%28crop%29.jpg

Legendary DJ John Digweed will make a quick appearance in the States later this month in advance of his upcoming WMC slot.

The Bedrock man will be making a special jaunt to Los Angeles the middle of next week to help celebrate his imprint's first decade of existence, and will be taking to the decks at the Mayan Theater for the occasion. Digweed last played there in 2006, but the progressive house hero has performed there plenty of times—leading him to base his Global Underground: Los Angeles mix on his memorable sets at the venue.

Diggers will be playing an extended set, but if you come early, you'll get to hear the deep sounds of Liquified resident Kazell—a Los Angeles local.

PVD-Cream Ibiza Could Be A Winner?

pvd.jpg

Yes, it looks like there could be even more success for PVD on the cards. Paul van Dyk - Cream Ibiza was his first mix album in two years, and it seems he hasn't lost his touch, as this nomination for the Best Full Length DJ (mix) goes to prove… It's especially impressive, though, because there's more than just the trance sound he's known for on the mix. It actually traverses minimal, electro and prog, plus techno too (the new default sound of Ibiza with the huge successes of Meganite and Cocoon etc.), before hitting the home straights with a more hands-in-the-air approach.

But the jury's not found in his favor yet, so if you want to give PVD your support, cast your vote here. Voting ends on Friday, February 27th and the winners will be announced at the 24th International Dance Music Awards at the Miami Beach Resort & Spa on Thursday, March 26th.

And when you're hitting it hard in Miami, a spa date might be just what you need…
