In the world of electronic music, 2009 might be remembered as the Year of the Quirky|Pretty Girl. First there was Lykke Li, then Ladyhawke and Little Boots, now there's Elly Jackson of super-hot La Roux.
La Roux are an English electropop “synth duo” band made up of singer and synth player Elly Jackson (above) and co-writer, co-producer, and rarely photographed Ben Langmaid. Elly found a book of baby names in a bin. Within the book was the name “La Roux”. ‘La Roux’ comes from the French for ‘red-haired one’, referring to Elly’s distinctive hair color. Her floppy hairstyle is all the buzz in fashion circles. Expect to see it on many a trendy girl very soon.
La Roux's music is largely influenced by 1980s pop music including Eurythmics, Depeche Mode, The Human League, Yazoo and Prince. Get the Quicksand EP here (iTunes).
