It's been a busy time lately for Grace Jones. The Jamaica-born über-model, actress and disco queen is releasing her new album Hurricane, due out early in 2009, and taking nightlife by storm.
In her prime of the late Seventies / early Eighties, Ms. Jones was the undisputed queen of gay discos, the center of attention in Manhattan nightlife. And in 2008 she does not disappoint – the legendary singer wowed a celeb-filled crowd last week at the Delano Hotel, including actor Benicio Del Toro, painter turned director Julian Schnabel; actress Kirsten Dunst; Mary Kate Olsen and boyfriend Nate Lowman; Ivana Trump (with Ocean Drive publisher Jason Binn); and a very solo New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.
Grace looked and sounded like perfection and at 60 she can still work a microphone and continues to set her own on-stage style, wearing a black velvet corset, a succession of fantastic headpieces -- including a gold fringed hood and glittering black mask -- and black rubber leggings as she demanded attention through a set that included such hits as Pull Up To The Bumper, Warm Leatherette, Slave to the Rhythm, and "La Vie En Rose" which brought tears to her eyes.
Grace in your face….
