The Six Million Dollar Man, David Beckham, proved that giving never goes out of style when he celebrated the two-year anniversary of The David Beckham Academy last Thursday (Thanksgiving Day) in London, England. Becks was on hand to meet the 120 children from school in Kent that are taking part in the Academy’s free school day visit program.
The mission of the David Beckham Academy is to provide excellence in pursuit of development. The Academy offers youth soccer summer camps, targeted to players of all ability levels, ages 8 to 15. The David Beckham Academy is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for young aspiring athletes. Every camper will come away accepting the importance of hard work, healthy living, team concepts and will understand the importance of having fun every time they step on the field.
The camp curriculum was written by the famed Manchester United FC Youth coach Eric Harrison, who produced superstar David Beckham along with the richly talented Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Philip and Gary Neville and Nicky Butt. Every camper will perform the same drills that David Beckham and his coaching staff did as youth players. Nationally recognized training partner, Athletes’ Performance will also have a strong presence at both the three and five day camps. They will put each athlete through a variety of assessments in which speed, agility and strength are tested. After examining each player’s strengths and weaknesses, the staff will then create a plan to maintain and improve each player’s game.
In London, the London Academy is the largest sporting facility of its kind in Europe. Built on the Greenwich Peninsula next door to The O2 (formerly The Millennium Dome), it houses two full-sized, indoor pitches and state-of-the-art educational and medical facilities.
