Britney Spears “Blackout” is set to be a blockbuster. The troubled pop-star's new album "Blackout", that was released this past Tuesday, is poised to hit No. 1 on next week's Billboard Top 100 chart.
Even though the official sales numbers won't be in until next Wednesday, there are estimate that the album should open with sales between 300,000 and 350,000 copies. Not bad but nowhere close to a Spears' last studio CD, 2003's "In The Zone," which opened with 609,000 copies sold.
According to Nielsen/SoundScan, first-day sales for Spears' CD stood at an impressive 124,000 copies. By comparison, this week's No. 1 album, "Carnival Ride," by Carrie Underwood, sold 49,000 copies on its first day.
According to reports (Rush & Molloy) Brits label, Jive Records, "has officially given up" on making Brit do anything to support her album release -- no plans for a tour, no interviews, photo shoots, public appearances, etc. "This album could've been so much bigger with Britney involved”.
Among the collaborators on the album are producers Bloodshy & Avant on "Piece of Me," "Toy Soldier," "Freakshow" and "Radar," Kara DioGuardi on "Heaven and Earth" and Nate "Danjahandz" Hills on "Gimme More," "Get Naked (I Got a Plan)," "Hot As Ice" and "Perfect Lover." T-Pain is credited as one of three writers on "Hot As Ice," while Pharrell Williams wrote, co-produced (as half of the Neptunes) and sings backup on closer "Why Should I Be Sad."
