Christian Bale plays Bob Dylan in his protest-music period, characterized by songs like “The Times They Are a-Changin’,” exploring the singers religious phase through gospel music (typified by the 1980 album Saved).

The iconic singer-songwriter will be depicted through six distinct stages of his life by six different actors (Bale, Cate Blanchett, Marcus Carl Franklin, Richard Gere, Heath Ledger and Ben Whishaw).

Previously, we’ve seen Blanchett as Bob Dylan. The film also stars Julianne Moore and Ledger’s live-in lover Michelle Williams.

Director Todd Haynes tells the press: “We turned Dylan into his own obsessions and took him a step further than he was in real life”. “It’s not a literal retelling of Dylan’s life,” “I’m Not There” “We’re accentuating the radical changes in point of view and style and genre and identity.

“I’m Not There” is scheduled to premiere at the 64th Venice Film Festival (August 29th to September 8th). A limited US release is schedule for November 21.
